There are exciting new features available in Syl version 3, including:

  • Completely redesigned Syl Search interface
  • Enhancements to Inventory and Discovery modes
  • New comprehensive online help system
  • Enhanced security, and more

1. Completely redesigned Syl Search interface

Sample-V3-mobile

The Syl Search interface has been completely redesigned with a modern, responsive design and improved consistency and transitions to indicate actions and activity.

The typical Syl Search desktop screen is shown above, with the three main areas (described below). The responsive design will automatically respond to the available screen size of the device being used. e.g. mobile sizing on the right.

The main areas on the screen are:

  • Query Box – where text is entered and semantic meanings can be selected for searching.
  • Refine Menu – where search results can be refined. It is made up of two tabs - Filters and Browse.
  • Results Area – where search results and asset details can be displayed in various ways and Syl administrators can provide additional tabs for filtering different source repositories.

2. Enhancements to Inventory and Discovery modes

Inventory and Discovery modes have been enhanced, providing further options and granularity when integrating with business intelligence and analytics systems for reporting purposes. The Syl Platform can quickly catalogue millions of assets (files and database records) and generate a lot of information for each asset. We have made it easier to extract the right information and assets. Some of the options include:

  • Kafka - Syl can stream information and assets directly to a BI solution using Kafka to provide a fully integrated solution.
  • JSON & XML - Syl produces well described JSON and XML extracts including the ability to choose a wide variety of Asset metadata:
    • syl group – metadata generated by Syl during the crawl, parse and index of the assets, such as word count, index date and time, index status, etc.
    • source group – metadata gathered from the source system, such as filesize, ACL details, folder/database name, etc.
    • asset group – metadata gathered from asset file properties (where available), such as author, created date, page count, etc.
We believe that as volumes of information continue to grow, understanding what you have, where it is, and when it was created and last used will become increasingly important.

3. New comprehensive online help system

Online help has much more informative content and has also been completely redesigned in line with a modern and responsive design that adjusts to available screen size including those of mobile devices.

Syl V3 Help

Help is available from many entry points, including:

  • QuickStart topics – this is a useful quick overview for new users of Syl, or for those using the new Syl 3 functionality and user interface for the first time.
  • Query Panel – features available when entering search terms, properties, operators and more.
  • Filter Selection Panel – how to refine the results of a search including widening or narrowing search results, filtering by file format, title, sources and more.
  • Browse Topics Panel – information about browsing the automatically recognised topics specific to the search results, such as by related people, locations and more.
  • Results Panel – functionality available to sort, preview, open, and email or export the list of search results.

These are just three of the exciting new features available in Syl version 3.
